Ask Victor about Lapa
SoonOne question, one answer — from someone who actually lives there.
Victor says: “Ask me anything about living in Estrela/Lapa/Santos.”
We’re studying how to run this well. Stay tuned.

Estrela
Half-day with the kids: park, basilica and a pastel de nata
Family-friendly
A flat, shaded loop around Bairro da Estrela built for small legs. Big park with a playground and a duck pond, a basilica with a rooftop you can climb, a proper bakery stop, and an optional museum garden looking out over the river.
Santos/Príncipe Real
A Vintage Trail Through São Bento
Markets, Off the beaten path
São Bento doesn't shout about its vintage scene, but it should. This short loop links four shops that I actually return. Expect Levi's and leather at fair prices, designer finds worth the splurge, and the kind of staff who remember your name and your size. Bring a tote bag and an afternoon. Fifteen minutes of walking.
Belém
Belém by garden: tropical palms, river lawns and the Tagus at golden hour
Nature
A flat green loop along the river end of Belém — a small tropical botanical garden hidden behind the monastery, two lawned plazas with fountains, the long riverside promenade, and the park around the Torre. Designed to be walked slowly, with stops for shade and a pastel de Belém on the way back.
Bairro Alto
Chiado & Bairro Alto: bookshops, gloves, soap and Portuguese wool
Markets & shopping
A small, walkable loop through Chiado and lower Bairro Alto built around five Portuguese makers and merchants that have outlasted everything around them — the world's oldest operating bookshop, a 1925 glove counter, heritage soap, and a wool mill from the mountains. No chains, no souvenirs.
Príncipe Real
Príncipe Real on foot: design, antiques and the cedar
Design & architecture
Five stops within five minutes of the umbrella cedar — independent boutiques, a palace-turned-mall and one antique tile shop that doubles as a museum. The design heart of Príncipe Real on foot.
